For days, there were serious riots in British cities. Minors also took part – and are now facing trial.
A 13-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to right-wing extremist riots at a shelter for asylum seekers in England. The teenager admitted in court that she had threatened violence at a rally in the town of Aldershot, southwest of London. The sentence is to be announced on September 30.
Two twelve-year-old boys had already confessed to their involvement in the riots on Monday. The authorities have so far arrested a total of 975 people. At least 50 minors have been charged, according to an analysis by the British news agency PA. In England, criminal responsibility begins at the age of ten.
The days of rioting in several cities were preceded by a knife attack in the north-west English town of Southport. Three girls were stabbed and several children injured. The false report that the perpetrator was a Muslim migrant was spread on social networks. The 17-year-old suspect was born to Rwandans in Great Britain.
