The draft for the 2025 federal budget is actually supposed to be sent to the Bundestag on Friday. FDP parliamentary group leader Dürr sees things somewhat differently when it comes to this controversial issue within the traffic light coalition.
FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr sees no reason to rush the government’s budget consultations. “The Bundestag will discuss the federal budget for the first time on September 10. This shows that we still have some time,” Dürr told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). “The sooner the agreement is reached, the better, of course.”
Dürr says he is confident that an agreement will be reached. “But it’s not about individual days or hours – the result has to be right.” 99 percent of the budget is already in place. “Now the last gap has to be closed. The scale shows that the task is doable.”
Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) want to reach an agreement and approve it in the cabinet as soon as possible this week.
In recent days, the dispute over the federal budget for the coming year has flared up again, with the coalition partners sometimes making harsh accusations against each other. According to the latest information, there is a funding gap of over 5 billion euros in the budget – out of a total volume of 480 billion euros. The draft budget is to be sent to the Bundestag on Friday.
