Club ban: Faeser defends “Compact” ban | STERN.de

The Federal Minister of the Interior describes the legal victory for the right-wing extremist media company “Compact” as a completely normal process. Not everyone sees it that way, even in the coalition.

After the Federal Administrative Court temporarily lifted the ban it had imposed on the right-wing extremist magazine “Compact”, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) sees no reason to change course. “The Basic Law explicitly provides for the instrument of banning associations in order to protect democracy from enemies of the constitution,” she said at an event at Berlin’s Ostbahnhof.

In view of the current threat situation, it is important to use these instruments of a defensive democracy. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is sticking to its position with regard to the main proceedings. The minister stressed: “We will not relax our actions against enemies of the constitution.”

Faeser banned “Compact” on July 16. She justified this by saying that the paper was a “central mouthpiece of the right-wing extremist scene”. The Federal Administrative Court provisionally lifted the ban in an expedited procedure on Wednesday. It expressed doubts about the proportionality of the ban. This means that the paper can be published again for the time being, subject to conditions. A final decision will be made in the main proceedings.

It is good that such bans can also be reviewed in court in a constitutional state, said Faeser. She referred to her ministry’s ban orders from the past that had stood up in court. Now they have “lost in part,” said Faeser. She added: “It is a completely normal process.” After the preliminary failure of the “Compact” ban, Faeser was criticized by the FDP, AfD and the Union.
