Thuringia has had an exciting election campaign. One day before the state election, various organizations are protesting against the AfD.
One day before the state election, hundreds of people took part in a protest against the AfD in Erfurt. A demonstration, called for by the “Auf die Plätze” alliance, moved through the city center to the cathedral square, where the AfD plans to hold its rally to mark the end of the election campaign. In addition to AfD right-winger and top candidate Björn Höcke, federal chairwoman Alice Weidel is also expected to attend. After a heated election campaign, a new state parliament will be elected in Thuringia on Sunday.
Signal against shift to the right
“We will not allow the AfD to dominate the election weekend with its extreme right-wing agitation, intimidate people and use our city as a stage for its propaganda,” the alliance declared. A week ago, thousands took to the streets in Erfurt to protest against right-wing extremism and a shift to the right.
The latest opinion polls in Thuringia have shown little movement in the individual parties’ ratings. The AfD was in the lead with ratings between 29 and 30 percent. The CDU, BSW and the Left followed at a distance. 1.66 million Thuringians are called to the state election on Sunday.
