During an appearance in Vladivostok, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on peace talks with Ukraine – and surprisingly signaled his willingness to negotiate.
According to President Vladimir Putin, Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine. “Are we ready to negotiate with them? We have never refused,” Putin said on Thursday at an economic forum in Vladivostok. “If there is a desire (in Ukraine) to negotiate, we will not refuse.”
Ukraine: Vladimir Putin continues to speak of “liberation”
Moscow had previously declared that Kiev’s invasion of the western Russian region of Kursk made negotiations impossible. Referring to the Ukrainian advance in Kursk, Putin now said: “Our armed forces have stabilized the situation (in Kursk) and have begun to gradually push (the enemy) out of our territory.”
The aim of the Ukrainian move was to “disturb” Moscow and stop its offensive in key regions, especially in the Donbass in eastern Ukraine, Putin said. The Kremlin chief described its “liberation” as “our most important goal”.
