Ukrainian President Zelensky has dismissed most of his government. Three reasons that could be behind this decision
1. Declining trust
Two and a half years after the Russian invasion and in the face of completely unclear prospects, Ukrainians are steadily losing confidence in their country’s leadership. This also affects President Volodymyr Zelensky himself: in June 2024, only just under 54 percent of Ukrainians expressed their confidence in him, a figure that has fallen by 15 percent since January.
In fact, this figure is now as low as it was before the war began: three quarters of Ukrainians do not trust their own government. The dismissal of a large part of the government is therefore an attempt to give Ukrainians an outlet for their discontent – without damaging the president.
