The CDU is inviting selected guests to the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences on September 25. It wants to congratulate Angela Merkel belatedly on her 70th birthday. “We are delighted,” announced party leader Friedrich Merz, for whom the event is not insignificant because it would send a belated signal of unity between him and his former rival one year before the federal election.
