In June, officials searched star-Information from former SPD politician Johannes Kahrs – and confiscated his cell phone. They suspect a lead to the Chancellor in the Cum-Ex affair.
As Johannes Kahrs leaves his old apartment on Hamburg’s Steindamm, a man and a woman discreetly follow him. It is 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Kahrs is carrying a bag, in the other hand he is holding his mobile phone, an iPhone 15 Pro. The pursuers are officers from the North Rhine-Westphalia State Office of Criminal Investigation.
The detectives approach the former SPD member of the Bundestag in front of the casino at the Hotel Graf Moltke. They belong to the “Alster” investigation commission, a special unit of the State Criminal Police Office that is concentrating on the Cum-Ex tax fraud case involving the Hamburg private bank M. M. Warburg. The officers show Kahrs their ID cards, a search warrant – and demand that he hand over his cell phone.
