War in the Middle East: Hezbollah circles: Ready for “any scenario” from Israel

For almost a year, Hezbollah and Israel’s military have been firing at each other almost daily. Fears of war are growing.

In response to decisions made by the Israeli security cabinet, Hezbollah considers itself prepared for “any scenario,” according to informed sources. Sources from the pro-Iranian Shiite organization told the German Press Agency: “Our fighters have been ready since October 8. Our leaders have stressed on all occasions that we will protect Lebanon.”

In an attack on October 7, 2023, terrorists from Hamas and other extremist organizations killed more than 1,200 people in Israel and took about 250 others hostage to Gaza. This triggered the Gaza war. Since the war began, the Israeli military has killed more than 41,000 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority. Hezbollah says it is acting in solidarity with Hamas and will not stop its attacks until the “aggression against the Palestinian people” stops.

Israel’s security cabinet had previously made the return of Israeli refugees to their homes in the north of the country a new war goal. The only way to achieve this is “military action,” as Israel’s Defense Minister Joav Galant said at a meeting with US mediator Amos Hochstein, according to his office. There are concerns that the conflict on the Israeli-Lebanese border could escalate further.

Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Islamist Hamas almost a year ago, there have been almost daily military confrontations between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the border region between the two countries. There have been deaths on both sides – most of them were members of Hezbollah.

Around 60,000 Israelis have had to leave their homes in northern Israel because of the shelling. On the other side of the border, around 110,000 people have had to seek safety in other parts of Lebanon, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
