War against Ukraine: EU Parliament: Ukraine should allow use of weapons in Russia

The European Parliament is calling for more support for Ukraine from EU member states. Restrictions on the use of supplied weapons should be lifted.

The European Parliament is calling on EU member states to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons against military targets on Russian soil. Ukraine must have the opportunity to fully defend itself, the Parliament said. Without the lifting of restrictions, this will not be fully possible.

The parliamentarians in Strasbourg adopted a corresponding – legally non-binding – resolution with 425 votes in favor, 131 against and 63 abstentions. In it, Parliament appeals to all EU states to increase their aid to Ukraine instead of cutting it. The MPs also call on the member states to keep their promise from March 2023 to deliver one million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine and to generally speed up the delivery of weapons.

Parliament also wants EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus, as well as against Iran and North Korea, to be maintained and expanded because of their support for Russia’s illegitimate war efforts. In addition, arrangements should be created to compensate Ukraine for the destruction with confiscated Russian state assets, Parliament demands.
