An Israeli ground offensive in Lebanon was expected. The first soldiers have now entered the south of the country.
Israel has begun a “limited ground offensive” in Lebanon. The army announced this on Platform X early Tuesday morning. A few hours ago they began “limited, localized and targeted ground attacks based on precise intelligence information against terrorist targets and infrastructure of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon.” These targets were located in villages near the border and posed an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel.
The Israeli Air Force and artillery supported ground forces with precision strikes on military targets in the area.
The conflict between Israel and the Shiite Hezbollah militia in Lebanon had recently escalated dramatically. The Israeli military has been massively attacking targets in the neighboring country for days, including Hezbollah weapons depots. Lebanon reported hundreds of deaths and injuries.
According to a report by the Israeli broadcaster Kan, an offensive is primarily aimed at facilities belonging to Hezbollah’s elite units. A ground offensive is not aimed at conquering territory, but at destroying military targets.
