The situation at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine is uneasy. Now Ukraine is killing an alleged collaborator there.
A security employee at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine has been killed by a car bomb. According to Russia’s State Investigative Committee, a hidden explosive device was detonated as the man sat in his car. The attack occurred in the city of Enerhodar, where the power plant employees live.
Ukrainian military intelligence confirmed the attack and called the dead man a collaborator. He took part in reprisals against nuclear power plant employees who were loyal to Ukraine. The man was also chairman of the city parliament in Enerhodar set up by the occupying power.
The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest nuclear facility in Europe, has been occupied by Russian troops since March 2022. The six reactors are at a standstill, but still need to be cooled and looked after. There have always been explosions in and around the plant, for which both sides blame each other. Employees of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are on site and monitoring the situation.
