Israel’s Airstrikes: Iran Misses Hezbollah Middleman in Lebanon

Israel also attacked Lebanon on the anniversary of the Hamas massacre. The airstrikes were actually aimed at a Hezbollah commander. But he is not the only one who is now considered missing.

According to insiders, Iran is missing one of its key liaisons to militant groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Houthis in Yemen. The head of Iran’s Quds Force, Esmail Kaani, went missing after Israeli air strikes in the Lebanese capital Beirut, two high-ranking Iranian security officials said on Monday.

The Kuds Brigades is the unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that specializes in foreign operations. Kaani’s predecessor, Kassem Soleimani, was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad in 2020.

Israel’s air strikes were valid

One of the two insiders says Kaani was in the suburb of Dahije in southern Beirut on Thursday. That day, Israel attacked the city again from the air. The attack is said to have targeted high-ranking Hezbollah commander Hashem Safieddine, who is also missing. However, Kaani has not met with Safieddine, the insider said.

Asked whether Kaani was killed by the Israeli military, an Israeli military spokesman said the results of the attacks were still being evaluated. Israel has attacked Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut in recent days. It is still unclear who was there.

Last Hezbollah leader killed

Iran supports the Lebanese Hezbollah and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday evening, Tehran directly attacked Israel for the second time in six months. The background was the Israeli military offensive in southern Lebanon, in which Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed.

Israel’s ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, spoke of a “turning point” in the Middle East. The killing of the head of the Iran-backed Shiite militia could be “the beginning of a new regional structure,” he said in an interview.
