On a talk show, Kamala Harris joked that she would shoot burglars. Now she confirms in a serious TV format: she owns a gun and also practices with it.
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris revealed in an interview that she owns a semi-automatic pistol. “I have a Glock and have had it for quite some time,” she said on CBS’s “60 Minutes” broadcast on Monday. After all, she comes from “law enforcement.” When asked if she had ever fired her weapon, the US vice president said: “Yes, of course I have. At a shooting range.”
The reporter also asks if it is true that if someone broke into her house, she would shoot them. Harris, however, evades this question somewhat, and the reporter doesn’t follow up. In an interview with talk show icon Oprah Winfrey, Harris had already confirmed her gun ownership and declared – rather jokingly -: “If someone breaks into my house, they will be shot.”
Kamala Harris has so far been reserved when it comes to the topic of weapons
In the past, Harris had rarely raised the issue on his own. In keeping with the spirit of their party: In view of the widespread gun violence in the USA, the Democrats are calling for restrictions on access to firearms. The Republicans, on the other hand, vigorously support the right to private gun ownership.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that Harris wants to confiscate US citizens’ guns – including in the two candidates’ only televised debate last month. However, Harris firmly denied the accusation and emphasized that both she and her vice presidential candidate Tim Walz were gun owners.
The Austrian manufacturer Glock produces one of the best-selling handguns in the United States. Glocks are commonly used by police. In Hollywood films, heroes and villains are often equipped with this weapon, which is why it has achieved almost cult status.
