Missiles to Russia: Iran condemns planned EU sanctions

Iran once again denies supplying ballistic missiles to Russia. The planned EU sanctions are therefore absurd.

Iran condemns the planned EU sanctions over the supply of ballistic missiles to Russia. “I have said this several times and I will say it again: Iran does not supply ballistic missiles to Russia,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told the Isna news agency. The planned EU sanctions are therefore absurd and merely a pretext to put more pressure on Iran. If the Europeans were desperate for an excuse, “they should come up with another scenario,” Araghchi said.

The EU member states want to impose the new sanctions this Monday. The punitive measures are intended to target, among other things, companies and individuals involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and the supply of these and other weapons to Russia. Sanctions are also to be imposed on the state airline Iran Air.

According to its own account, Iran has a “strategic cooperation” with Moscow, but this is not related to the war in Ukraine. Tehran considers the delivery of military aid to warring parties to be inhumane.
