Ukrainian President Zelenskyj, who has returned from his European tour, is once again calling for rapid military support from the West. He backs this up with figures on Russian attacks.
After his visit to Germany and other European countries, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is urging his partners in the West to provide rapid help in the fight against the Russian war of aggression. “No time should be wasted – a clear signal must be sent,” he said on the short message service X.
“Our partners are able to provide the required quantity and quality of air defense systems, make decisions for our sufficient long-range capabilities and ensure the timely provision of defense assistance to our troops,” Zelensky wrote.
Last week, the Russians dropped around 900 glide bombs over Ukraine, he said. There were also attacks with 40 rockets and 400 strikes with drones of various types, Zelensky explained and also published a video of the damage.
Ukrainian air defense reports drones shot down
On Sunday alone, Ukrainian air defense reported the downing of 31 Russian drones. In total there were 68 drone attacks and several rocket strikes during the night. Nothing is known about any damage.
Selenskyj visited Rome, Paris and London last week and met Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. During the European tour, he promoted his “victory plan,” which is not yet publicly known.
What is clear, however, is that Ukraine is demanding that the West release long-range weapons for strikes against military targets far in the Russian hinterland. Kyiv is also demanding a concrete invitation for Ukraine to join NATO.
The country is under increasing military pressure in view of the Russian advance in eastern Ukraine. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and has been waging a destructive war ever since.
