His visit to Berlin probably won’t even last 24 hours – and yet Germany is so important for US President Joe Biden that he is making his way across the Atlantic again shortly before the end of his term in office. In his talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Friday, the 81-year-old is probably also concerned with securing US foreign policy beyond his term in office – particularly with a view to Ukraine.
Biden had originally wanted to come to Germany for several days last week. However, the White House canceled the visit because of Hurricane Milton, which was heading towards the US state of Florida at the time. The official visit will now be rescheduled.
