Federal Prosecutor’s Office: Suspected left-wing extremist arrested in Berlin

One man is said to have worked, among other things, as a combat trainer for the group led by student Lina E. Now the police were able to arrest him in Berlin.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has had a suspected left-wing extremist arrested in Berlin. As a spokeswoman for the Karlsruhe authority confirmed to the German Press Agency, he is accused of supporting a criminal organization, causing grievous bodily harm and damaging property. The “Spiegel” first reported.

According to the highest German prosecution authority, the man is said to have belonged to the group surrounding the alleged left-wing extremist Lina E. and made himself available to her as a combat trainer. He is also said to have been involved in a raid on the right-wing trendy bar “Bull’s Eye” in Eisenach in Thuringia.

The Dresden Higher Regional Court sentenced Lina E. to five years and three months in prison in May 2023 for several attacks on right-wing extremists. Nevertheless, she was initially released after two and a half years in custody. The arrest warrant was suspended under certain conditions. She will only have to serve the remaining sentence if the verdict is final. The Federal Court of Justice wants to hear the appeals filed by both E. and the Federal Prosecutor General on February 6th in Karlsruhe.

The man arrested in Berlin on Monday was due to be brought before the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice on Tuesday, who will decide on pre-trial detention.
