The Iran-aligned Hezbollah militia has claimed responsibility for the weekend drone attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home.
The militia declared its “full, complete and exclusive responsibility” for the action in the city of Caesarea, Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif said on Tuesday. The drone was shot down on Saturday morning over the private residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu had described the drone attack as an assassination attempt and threatened retaliation.
After the destruction of the drone, Israel increased its attacks on Lebanon again. Among other things, the army said it attacked a Hezbollah intelligence center in Beirut on Sunday. Authorities in the Gaza Strip reported more than 70 deaths as a result of an Israeli airstrike.
Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife were not in the house
According to Israeli sources, the drone coming from Lebanon was shot down over the Netanyahus’ private residence on Saturday morning in the city of Caesarea, south of Haifa. “The prime minister and his wife were not at the scene and there were no injuries,” authorities said.
“Hezbollah, allies of Iran, which tried to murder me and my wife, made a big mistake,” he said. Iran and its allies would “regret” this and “pay a high price for it.”
