Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has the final say on all strategic matters in Iran. Now he is speaking out for the first time after the Israeli attack.
Iran’s religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for deliberate action following the Israeli attack. “Those responsible must decide how the strength and will of the Iranian people should be made clear to the Zionist regime (Israel),” said Khamenei (85), according to the state agency Irna, at an event in the capital Tehran. “Whatever is in the best interest of this people and country should be done,” he added.
Khamenei’s words after the Israeli airstrike were comparatively moderate. In the context of the Middle East conflict and after the killing of Iranian generals or leading allies, the head of state had also vowed revenge in recent months. His statements are considered the final word, which both the government and the military will follow. According to official reports, the Israeli attack killed four soldiers and damaged several military sites such as radar systems.
