After the execution of a German-Iranian, Mariam Claren fears for her mother. She is also being held in Iran. The activist is angry – and makes serious accusations against Scholz.
Ms. Claren, on Monday the mullahs’ regime executed German citizen Jamshid Sharmahd. Her mother Nahid Taghavi is also in Iranian custody. Have you been able to speak to her since?
She has been on medical leave under house arrest since the end of September. As a result, we have been able to speak twice since then. She asked me: What does this mean for me now? You could tell she was restless. Dual nationals have been used by the Iranian regime as a bargaining chip for hostage diplomacy for decades. But the murder of Jamshid Sharmahd represents a new level of escalation. She scares me a lot too. The protection that my mother thought she had because she was German – that is now gone.
