Olaf Scholz is restructuring: This is what his new cabinet looks like without the FDP

After the traffic lights end
The FDP ministers are gone – except for one: This is what the new cabinet looks like

Three FDP ministers have left Olaf Scholz’s government. In the photo series you can see the new cabinet, which probably won’t work together for long.

The traffic light coalition is at an end: After Chancellor Olaf Scholz fired Finance Minister and FDP leader Christian Lindner, Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (both also FDP) also submitted their resignations.

Transport Minister Volker Wissing, on the other hand, decided not to follow his party’s course. The liberal declared his resignation from the party and remains in office as the only FDP minister. Due to the withdrawal of the three ministers, Olaf Scholz’s art of improvisation is in demand.

Olaf Scholz appoints new finance minister

The Chancellor has only filled one of the orphaned ministries with a new cabinet member: Jörg Kukies (SPD) will become finance minister instead of Christian Lindner. In the other two cases, Scholz is expanding the areas of responsibility of previous ministers in his government: Volker Wissing is now also responsible for justice, while Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir is also taking over the education department.

Nevertheless, the cabinet is only working on a temporary basis. Without the FDP, Scholz no longer has a majority in the Bundestag. The Chancellor has already announced that he will soon raise a vote of confidence in Parliament. It is very likely that there will be new elections afterwards.
