The FDP chairman Christian Lindner has decided on the next Chancellor: In his eyes, no one else has a chance than CDU candidate Friedrich Merz.
FDP chairman Christian Lindner expects a clear election victory for CDU leader Friedrich Merz in the early federal election. “The race for chancellorship is actually over,” said Lindner on Tuesday at an event hosted by the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” in Berlin. “Friedrich Merz is almost certainly the next Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.”
The open question is now which coalition Chancellor Merz will govern with – whether with the SPD, the Greens or the FDP. Lindner said his party wanted to be part of a future CDU-led government. “Our goal is to get into parliament in double figures so that the FDP can be part of the next coalition and implement as much of the program as possible.”
Lindner welcomed the factions’ agreement on February 23rd as the date for the federal election. “Fortunately, we now have clarity on this,” he said.
