Gaza war: situation in the north resembles a horror film

The US is urging Israel to reduce the suffering of civilians in the Gaza Strip. That doesn’t seem to have much effect: the situation is getting worse, says the head of a Norwegian aid organization.

The Israeli army says it has continued its attacks on the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In the city of Rafah in the south of the coastal strip and in the refugee districts of Jabaliya and Beit Lahia in the north, numerous terrorists were killed, positions were destroyed and weapons depots were dug up. According to Palestinian information, at least 35 people have died since Friday. The information provided by both sides could not initially be independently verified.

The situation in the north resembles a “dystopian horror film” and has recently become even worse, said the head of the Norwegian aid organization NRC, Jan Egeland, “Zeit Online”. During one visit, he “drove through never-ending areas with completely destroyed houses.” However, people still held out there.

Aid deliveries are often looted. Egeland said he experienced this himself at the Kerem Shalom border crossing. “Maybe 100 men stood there with sticks, waiting to stop the trucks following us and jump on.”
