“Efficiency Authority”
80 hours, many enemies, no pay: This is how Elon Musk is looking for new employees

There is endless work waiting, but it is not rewarded. Elon Musk needs people for his new US “efficiency authority” and advertises them with merciless honesty.
“The world has never been changed with 40 hours a week,” and he also specified what he describes: “80 to 100 hours. The pain increases exponentially from 80 hours onwards.” In 2018 he wrote this on the platform, which is now called X and belongs to him.
80 hours per week for unspectacular cost reductions
Nothing has changed in Musk’s demands since then, even if the multi-boss (Tesla, SpaceX, X) now has a new toy in the form of a government agency. Strictly speaking, it is a commission that is supposed to examine the efficiency of US authorities. He needs people for that. But not just any: “We’re looking for highly qualified small government revolutionaries who are willing to work 80+ hours a week on low-profile cost cutting,”
Old fans, new hardliners: Trump is forming his chamber of horrors
His addendum makes it clear that the job is only for true lovers of Elon Musk and his oeuvre: “This work will create many enemies for you and the pay is zero,” says Musk, who still calls the job a “great deal.”
Elon Musk: Donald Trump super supporter
The South African native courageously threw himself at Donald Trump’s side in the US election campaign and even paid voters a million dollars if they signed a pro-Trump petition. The newly created position should also be a thank you for Musk’s support.
The commission he chairs together with biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is called the “Department of Government Efficiency” and is abbreviated DOGE – just like the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which, no surprise, has been promoted by Elon Musk for many years.
The two efficiency managers now have until July 4, 2026, the 250th Independence Day of the USA, to implement “deep changes in government programs and federal agencies” – including “mass layoffs of federal employees”. Critics of the personnel expect that Musk will also make regulations that affect his own companies “more efficient.”
