With 96.48 percent, the Greens chose Robert Habeck as their candidate for chancellor. The Economics Minister had previously sought the trust of the delegates in a speech.
The Greens are heading into the early federal elections with Robert Habeck as their candidate for chancellor. The Federal Minister of Economics was elected on Sunday at a party conference in Wiesbaden, with 96.5 percent of the delegates voting for the corresponding proposal. “Robert Habeck has what it takes to be a good Chancellor,” it says.
The word “candidate for chancellor” does not appear in the application; instead, Habeck is described as a “candidate for the people of Germany.” At the same time, he should form a “top duo” with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock until the early federal elections at the end of February.
Around a week and a half after the traffic lights went out, the Greens launched the election campaign at the party conference. In addition to Habeck’s nomination, the focus was on the election of a new party leadership and the substantive positioning. The new party leaders are the parliamentary state secretary in Habeck’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Franziska Brantner, and the Bundestag member Felix Banaszak. They replaced Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour.
