As soon as Robert Habeck was named the Green Party’s top candidate for the federal election, he made it clear which of Chancellor Scholz’s positions he would revise if he could.
Green Party lead candidate Robert Habeck has announced that if elected as head of government, he would deliver Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. The answer to this question is yes, said Habeck in an interview with the ARD capital studio that evening when asked whether he would revise the decision of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). Scholz rejects the delivery of long-range German cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Habeck pointed out that as Federal Minister of Economics he had repeatedly had to make decisions about arms deliveries. “That was part of my office and those were some of the hardest decisions I have to make,” said the Green politician.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj repeatedly asks the allies for long-range weapons in order to be able to attack Russian logistics and air force military airfields far behind the front line on Russian territory. Scholz justifies his no to the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles by saying that targets in Moscow can also be hit from Ukraine.
