Part of the protest camp of environmental activists is to be evacuated due to a search for explosives. Tesla opponents accuse the authorities of calculation.

The police are taking action against forest squatters in a protest camp due to a planned search for explosives near the Tesla car factory in Grünheide near Berlin. High-altitude rescuers took some Tesla opponents out of their tree houses because they refused to leave the area during the scheduled work. The police also spoke of dangerous actions by the activists at great heights between the trees and are preparing for a longer operation.

Tesla opponents are against expanding the car manufacturer’s only European factory, which is led by Elon Musk. According to the police, the environmental activists are supposed to vacate part of the camp they set up in February for a certain period of time because, at the request of the municipality of Grünheide, the area is to be examined for explosive ordnance. In the summer, two World War II bombs were found and exploded in a controlled manner on the site of the planned Tesla expansion.

A police spokeswoman spoke of massive resistance to the operation. According to the police, this is not an eviction that is directed against the occupation of the forest itself. The environmental activists could return after the explosive ordnance investigation.
