The nuclear power Russia confirms the use of a new missile. According to Washington, it was informed about the operation shortly beforehand.
The US government was informed by Russia shortly before it would use a new medium-range missile against Ukraine. For this purpose, the “channels for reducing nuclear risks” between Washington and Moscow were used, said deputy spokeswoman for the US Department of Defense, Sabrina Singh.
It was a medium-range ballistic missile based on the model of a Russian RS-26 intercontinental ballistic missile. According to US knowledge, the new missile was used for the first time on the battlefield in Ukraine. According to Russian information, it was not equipped with nuclear warheads – but this would probably be technically possible.
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed the deployment of a new medium-range missile called Oreshnik. According to him, such a rocket hit the southern Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday morning.
