Former Chancellor Angela Merkel is said to have received several million euros for her memoirs. Should she, like Obama, donate at least part of it? A survey shows a clear result.
Today Angela Merkel presents her memoirs in Berlin. According to industry estimates, the ex-Chancellor will receive a sum in the millions as a fee. According to a Forsa survey for the star 69 percent of Germans are of the opinion that Merkel should donate at least part of the proceeds from the sale of book rights. 24 percent don’t see it that way. 7 percent do not comment. Former US President Barack Obama, who receives even higher book royalties, has set up a charitable foundation. Merkel has so far kept a low profile on the issue. In an interview with “Spiegel” she said: “I won’t be able to raise such a big thing like Obama. But let’s see.” Opposite that star Merkel’s office did not want to comment on specific plans.
FDP voters would be more understanding if Angela Merkel kept her fees to herself
There are no major differences in the population groups when it comes to donations. Women (76 percent) advise Merkel to donate slightly more often than men (31 percent). The supporters of the FDP (41 percent) are most likely to believe that the ex-Chancellor should keep her fees entirely to herself.
The data was compiled by the market and opinion research institute Forsa star and RTL Deutschland by telephone between November 22nd and 25th. Database: 1003 surveys. The survey is therefore representative. Statistical margin of error: +/- 3 percentage points.
