The FDP is in unrest, the general secretary is resigning: the secret plan affair is developing into an existential crisis for the party – three months before the federal election.
It doesn’t even take a minute. In the Hans-Dietrich-Genscher-Haus, Bijan Djir-Sarai appeared in front of the cameras on Friday and announced his resignation. “I unknowingly provided incorrect information about an internal document,” says the outgoing FDP general secretary. This was not his intention.
He added that he had no knowledge of the paper, “neither of its creation nor of its content.” He is responsible for such a process in his office and he takes political responsibility. After 46 seconds, the now former Secretary General leaves the stage again. “Mr. Djir-Sarai,” a journalist calls after him.
