A photo that is said to have fallen into the hands of rebels in a palace belonging to the Assad regime in Aleppo has recently been circulating on social media. It shows Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s ruler, as a young man. The picture was never intended for the public. But that’s precisely why it seems very symbolic these days: the dictator is (almost) naked.
