Olaf Scholz expresses his solidarity with the Syrians in Arabic

After the fall of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad, Olaf Scholz addressed the millions of Syrians. On Twitter, the Chancellor expressed Germany’s solidarity with the people in the civil war-torn country in Arabic.

“Today we stand with all Syrian women and men who are full of hope for building a free, fair and safe Syria,” wrote Scholz. A political solution to the conflict in Syria is possible. Scholz promised: “Germany will contribute to this in cooperation with international partners and on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions.”

However, Scholz did not give any details about how Germany wanted to help resolve the conflict in Syria and what this solution could look like.

The fact that heads of state and government tweet in foreign languages ​​is actually nothing special. As a rule, Scholz’s press team translates the Chancellor’s messages into English and often also into French. However, messages in other languages ​​are rarely found on Scholz’s account.

Since the civil war in Syria broke out in 2011, more than 900,000 people have come to Germany from the country. Most fled the bloody conflict. Since 2014 they have been the largest group of asylum seekers in Germany. The Chancellor addressed them with his Arabic message on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

Assad has “brutally and violently oppressed” his people for more than a decade, taking tens of thousands of lives on his conscience and forcing millions to flee, Scholz said in a press statement in Berlin on Sunday evening. The Syrian people have experienced terrible suffering, so the end of Assad’s rule over Syria is good news.
