After an underwater power cable fails, Finnish investigators detain a cargo ship they suspect of sabotage. Now the “Eagle S” should be moved.
Finnish police want to relocate the cargo ship “Eagle S”, which was stranded after damage to an underwater power cable. The tanker will be taken from the Gulf of Finland to an anchorage near the port of Kilpilahti, police said. The move is intended to make the investigation easier.
The ship was stopped at Christmas after the Estlink2 underwater power cable between Finland and Estonia failed. Investigators are investigating possible sabotage.
The ship sails under the flag of the Cook Islands. According to the EU, it belongs to the Russian shadow fleet – tankers and other cargo ships that Russia uses to avoid sanctions, for example when transporting oil. Problems with several communication cables were also identified in the Baltic Sea.
