Facebook company Meta is bringing UFC boss Dana White, a close confidante of Donald Trump, into the team – a possible step to improve the relationship with the future president.
The Facebook parent company Meta has appointed a confidant of the future US President Donald Trump to the board of directors. The head of the UFC martial arts association, Dana White, will be part of the committee along with two other new members, as Meta announced on Monday.
White explained that he had not previously been interested in such a position, but Meta’s offer convinced him. “I firmly believe that social media and AI are the future.”
Donald Trump and Dana White: They have been friends for decades
The UFC boss has had a close friendship with Trump for two decades, who, among other things, provided him with halls for UFC events. In mid-November, Trump visited a UFC martial arts event in New York with his advisor Elon Musk.
Trump has repeatedly criticized Facebook in recent years, accusing the online service of supporting liberal politics and being biased against conservatives. After the storming of the Capitol in early 2021, Trump’s Facebook account was blocked for two years.
Mark Zuckerberg wants a better relationship with Trump
Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg is trying to improve the difficult relationship with Trump. After his election victory, he traveled to a meeting of several heads of tech companies with Trump at his residence in Mar-a-Lago in November. He and Amazon boss Jeff Bezos also donated $1 million each to the Trump inauguration ceremony on January 20th.

In addition to White, Meta is adding the head of the Italian luxury car manufacturer Ferrari, John Elkann, and the former Microsoft manager Charlie Songhurst to the board of directors, which will increase to 13 members.
The parent company of Facebook and Instagram recently appointed a former employee of former US President George W. Bush, Joel Kaplan, as its new political boss. This appointment is also likely aimed at improving relations with Trump.
