Trump appoints head of environmental task force

Donald Trump is known to be skeptical about climate protection. Now he is hinting at what to expect from his new environmental task force.

US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed expert Ed Russo to head a new environmental task force. In the future, this will advise his government on initiatives to protect natural resources and create jobs, as Trump announced on the Truth Social platform he co-founded.

The task force will implement its clean air and clean water policies. Together we will achieve “American energy dominance” and rebuild the economy, Trump wrote. He also repeated his slogan “Drill, Baby, drill” (roughly: Bohr, Baby, bohr), with which he had repeatedly expressed his support for fossil fuels during the election campaign.

Russo called Trump an “environmental hero”

Russo had reportedly previously worked as an environmental consultant for Trump’s company. He is also the author of the book “Donald J. Trump: An Environmental Hero.”

Trump’s election victory is causing great concern for climate activists. It is expected that the United States will once again withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, effectively saying goodbye to any ambition to protect the environment and climate.

In November, Trump had already announced that he wanted to make the CEO of the US oil service provider Liberty Energy, Chris Wright, his energy secretary. Trump praised Wright as a “leading technologist and entrepreneur in the energy sector.” Liberty Energy, based in Denver, Colorado, promotes innovative solutions to the controversial oil and natural gas extraction through fracking.
