Tears of relief and emotion: three Hamas hostages are back in the arms of their families. There is a highly emotional reunion in a clinic near Tel Aviv.
Three Israeli hostages have been reunited with their families after their release from Hamas violence in the Gaza Strip. A two-minute long video shows the extremely emotional reunion of the three women with their relatives in the Shiba Hospital near Tel Aviv. There were warm hugs, tears shed, sobs and cheers to be heard as family members hugged Romi Gonen (24), Emily Damari (28) and Doron Steinbrecher (31).
Armed Hamas fighters had previously handed the women over to Red Cross representatives in Gaza. They had been held in the contested coastal strip since their abduction during the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023.
They were the first hostages to be released as part of a six-week ceasefire agreement. After arriving on Israeli territory and being greeted by their mothers, they were taken by helicopter to the clinic near the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv.
Hospital director Jael Frenkel Nir told reporters that the hostages’ condition allowed them to “focus on the most important thing, reunification with the family.” Further medical examinations could wait a few hours. Another treating doctor spoke of an “emotionally and medically complex event”.
