The – literally – “ridiculous war” in Ukraine must be ended, demands US President Donald Trump. Otherwise there will be consequences.
The new US President Donald Trump has threatened Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin with massive tariffs on Russian products if he does not agree to an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. If a “deal” to end the war is not made soon, “I will have no choice but to impose taxes, tariffs and sanctions on everything sold by Russia to the United States,” Trump wrote on his online network Truth on Wednesday Social.
Donald Trump tightens his warning to Vladimir Putin
Trump added that these measures would then also affect “several other participating countries,” apparently referring to Russia’s allies in the nearly three-year-old war against Ukraine.
The US President, who has been in office since Monday, tightened his warnings to Putin. He had already threatened the Russian head of state with new “sanctions” on Tuesday, albeit in a less striking form. Trump told journalists that he would “probably” tighten sanctions against Russia if Putin did not agree to an agreement to end the war.
During the election campaign, Trump announced that he would end the war in Ukraine within “24 hours,” but later set a time frame of six months.
In his online message on Wednesday, Trump also emphasized that he “did not want to harm Russia” and that he had “always had a good relationship with President Putin.” Rather, he wanted to do Russia, whose economy is suffering badly, “a very big favor” – by which he meant his work towards a possible peace agreement.
This “ridiculous war” must end now, Trump demanded. Otherwise it will “only get worse”.
