US President Trump is in favor of housing the suffering residents of the Gaza Strip in Arab states. Support comes from right-wing extremist politicians in Israel.
Israel’s right-wing finance minister Bezalel Smotrich praises US President Donald Trump’s proposal to bring Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip to Arab countries. “After 76 years of holding most of Gaza’s population in harsh conditions to maintain the goal of destroying the State of Israel, the idea of helping them find other places where they can build a new, better place is excellent life can begin,” wrote Smotrich on X.
For years, politicians have only proposed solutions that are not feasible, such as the establishment of a Palestinian state, which endangers Israel’s existence and security, Smotrich continued. Only “unconventional thinking” about new solutions will bring peace and security. The right-wing politician continued to write that he wanted to work with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to implement Trump’s plan as quickly as possible.
Trump had previously said, according to journalists traveling on board the government plane Air Force One, that he wanted Egypt and Jordan to take in the people. He suggested building housing elsewhere where Palestinians might be able to live in peace for a change. It could be temporary or long-term, he answered a journalist’s question. There have been many conflicts in the region over the centuries. Something has to happen.
In the past, Smotrich had also spoken out in favor of Israeli repopulation of the Gaza Strip after the war against Hamas. Former US President Joe Biden rejected this. Smotrich also said about a year ago that if Israel does things right, there will be an exodus of Palestinians.
The right-wing extremist politician Itamar Ben-Gvir, who left the government last week, also praised Trump’s proposal.
