Trump’s politics is based on the acceptance of two genders, male and female. This now also has consequences for the US military.
US President Donald Trump has signed several decrees that are likely to change the composition of the US military. A decree could actually lead to the exclusion of transgenderers from the armed forces, as several US media report. Trump does not explicitly prohibit transgender soldiers in it – he orders his defense minister Pete Hegseth in the decree to create new guidelines for dealing with trans people.
A transgender exclusion from the military was expected. According to the US media, the new decrees signed on board the Air Force One on the return flight from Florida to Washington.
Decree speaks of “radical gender ideology”
The assumption of a gender identity that deviates from the biological gender is not compatible with the “strict standards” of the military service, the decree says. Trump called for high climbs, cohesion and honesty for the armed forces. “This program is incompatible with the medical, surgical and psychological restrictions of people with gender identity disorder.”
In addition, a transgender identity contradicts the commitment of a soldier to an “honest, honest and disciplined lifestyle, even in private life”. As an example, it means: “The claim of a man that he is a woman, and his demand that others recognize this falsehood is not in accordance with the modesty and selflessness that is required by a relative of the armed forces.”
The military was most recently a “radical gender ideology haunted” who only wanted to appease “activists”.
Trans people or transgender are not belonging to the gender that was attributed to them at birth. The World Health Organization WHO has no longer classified trans- and gender-diverse identities as mental illnesses since 2019. This reflects a modern understanding of gender identity, writes the WHO.
Legal hurdles are already foreseeable
Trump had already campaigned for the exclusion of trans people from the military during his first term. But legal hurdles followed. Laws are expected again this time. The Civil Rights Organization Lambda Legal has already announced legal steps. “Thousands of transsexual military members have served openly and courageously for years,” wrote the organization, which had already taken action against his plans during Trump’s first term. Their exclusion is “cruel” and undermine, among other things, national security.
In further enactment, Trump instructed the Pentagon to change the course in terms of diversity and equality in the military. In his inauguration, the President had emphasized that he rely on a performance -oriented society. He also issued a decree with which he wants to put soldiers back into service without a corona vaccination.
