The joint coordination with the AfD annoys some earlier grands of the CDU. Ex-board member Michel Friedman draws personal consequences and leaves the party.
Michel Friedman no longer wants to belong to the CDU. The publicist and former high -ranking Union politician draws its personal consequences from the controversial coordination in the Bundestag, in which the CDU/CSU brought an application for migration policy for the first time with votes from the AfD.
The 68-year-old told Hessischer Rundfunk that he would leave the party. Friedman condemned the coordination in the Bundestag with sharp words: she was “a catastrophic turning point for the democracy of the Federal Republic” and an “unuse -up game”. Friedman has been a member of the Christian Democrats since 1983 – for more than 40 years and had belonged to the Federal Executive Board of the CDU from 1994 to 1996.
Michel Friedman: Merz is open “Box of the Pandora”
However, this chapter has ended for him after the historic Bundestag meeting. “The naivety of those who want to explain to the CDU that all of this was not wanted, that they didn’t want their voices at all, is so subordinate that you can no longer listen to it,” said Friedman.
With the vote, CDU boss Friedrich Merz opened the “Pandora rifle” of a collaboration with the AfD-even if he did not want to coalize with the part of the right-wing extremist party. The AfD’s voices are poisoned and would now also poison the Union. On Friday, the Union could also adopt the so -called influx limitation law with the votes from the right.
A large part of Michel Friedman’s family was murdered by the Nazis in the Third Reich. His parents and grandmother survived thanks to the support of Oskar Schindler. Friedman was involved, among other things, as deputy chairman of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and as President of the European Jewish Congress. Just a few months ago, in a speech in the Hessian state parliament, he had described the AfD MPs as “intellectual arsonist, responsible for hatred and agitation”.
In an essay for the star wrote Friedman as early as 2023: “If the AfD belongs to a German federal government, my suitcases are packed. Then I go. My life is in danger at the latest. Not just because I am a Jew, but because I am Democrat, a citizen. Because I mean Don’t want to hold, but I don’t want to go to prison for that either.
