The votes in the Bundestag on migration policy trigger outrage. Green Chancellor candidate Robert Habeck now attacks CDU boss Merz-but also believes in a path.
Robert Habeck spoke of a “disqualification” for the office of Chancellor with a view to Friedrich Merz’s approach and his migration policy. Word fracture was committed, the Minister of Economy accused the CDU boss at an election campaign event on Saturday evening in Cologne. “Not even, but twice not accidentally, but with intentions. Against all warnings,” said Habeck. “I wonder: who chooses a person to become a Chancellor who breaks his word twice?” He said. “This is a disqualification for the office of Chancellor.”
Union Chancellor Friedrich Merz had triggered outrage in the past few days because he had accepted in the Bundestag that AfD votes became decisive for a majority. A five-point migration plan received such a majority on Wednesday-for the first time because of AfD votes. In the event of a vote on Friday, a draft law of the Union failed to limit migration despite the approval of the AfD.
Former Chancellor Angela Merkel subsequently reminded Merz of an earlier statement from him to only make decisions agreed with the SPD and the Greens so that no majority came about with the AfD.
Habeck sees the opportunity to correct yourself
But Habeck also said mistakes could happen – the question was how to deal with it. If Merz and FDP boss Christian Lindner “and the others who have now voted” explained that this was a mistake that would not happen again-then he will not stand “and with malice or ridicule or with resignation demands on it react, “said Habeck. “Then I will say: This is political size.”
But there must also be such a step. “And if I have looked at the last 24 hours, the opposite is happening,” said Habeck.
