At the same time, Sheinbaum announced the posting of 10,000 additional soldiers to the United States in the fight against drug smuggling. Your country will “immediately” strengthen the northern border with a corresponding number of members of the National Guard to “prevent Mexico’s drug trafficking to the United States, especially Fentanyl,” said Sheinbaum on Monday after the phone call. For its part, the United States has undertaken to act against illegal trade in weapons to Mexico.
Trump then said that the conversation with Sheinbaum had been “very friendly”. During the one -month suspension of punitive tariffs, negotiations would now take place to reach an agreement. Sheinbaum said that the talks between the two sides would start on Monday and to revolve it about security issues and trade.
Trump does not only criticize images in the trade. He also uses the threat of punitive tariffs to achieve Mexico’s tougher action against migration and drug cartels. Mexico is the most important trade partner in the United States. More than 80 percent of Mexico’s exports go to the neighboring country. Thousands of companies and millions of jobs depend on it.
