The former Chancellor’s memoirs are very interested. At a signing lesson in Hamburg, around 200 readers are in front of the bookstore. Not all of them are fans of her.
Angela Merkel triggered a customer rush at a signing lesson in her hometown of Hamburg. Around 200 people were in the afternoon to have one or more copies of the book “Freiheit” signed by the former Chancellor in the traditional bookstore Felix Jud.
A 72 -year -old from Hanover, who bought two copies of Merkel’s memories, reported that she only wrote her name in – without further words. The ex-chancellor kindly asked for understanding that she had no time for dedications.
Merkel had risen from a dark sedan in the blue blazer in front of the bookstore and passed the waiting journalists without saying a word. Press representatives were not approved in the shop. In the evening, Merkel wanted to read her book in the German Schauspielhaus.
Readers see Merkel’s chancellorship not only positively
One of the customers, who also was in front of the store with two copies, found appreciative words for the former Chancellor: “Ms. Merkel was good at taking out the energy out of conflicts and ensuring an objectification,” said the 60-year-old, who own information is the Greens member. He will give a copy of his father, who is not a Merkel fan, but likes to read biographies. A 34-year-old lawyer said: “As a chancellor, she was a good crisis manager, but there was also a lot of standstill.
12,000 copies per week
The managing director of the bookstore, Robert Eberhardt, reported that the Merkel memoirs have been selling very well since Christmas. Previously, the Kiepenheuer & Witsch publisher had already reported great success. “We are now selling around 12,000 copies a week, which is sensational,” said publisher Kerstin Gleba “FAZ.NET”.
In “Freedom. Memories 1954 – 2021”, the 70 -year -old Chancellor looks back on her life on 736 pages. Co-author is her long-time familiar Beate Baumann. Merkel had presented the book for the first time at the end of November last year in a conversation with the journalist Anne Will in Berlin.
