The head of the international atomic energy authority Grossi is in Moscow. In the conversations, he particularly warns problems with the safety of a nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
The director of the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has been concerned about increasing attacks on the Saporischschja nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine. “The security situation remains very difficult. Even more, we will register that the number of attacks is increasing,” said Grossi after a meeting with the head of the Russian nuclear authority Rosatom, Alexej Lichatschev, in Moscow, as the Interfax news agency reported.
Grossi did not want to provide any information on who is responsible for the attacks on the nuclear system. International atomic observers stationed there could not recognize this from the drone debris, he said. “Nevertheless, I would like to assure you that questions of this type of mine will be addressed at the highest level at international meetings,” he added.
Before visiting Moscow, Grossi was also in Ukraine, where he warned of the danger of a nuclear accident through the constant Russian attacks on the neighboring power grid of the neighboring country.
The nuclear power plant in the Saporischschja region was occupied by Russian troops shortly after the war. Several attempts to recapture Kiev failed. Ukrainian and Russian troops are always responsible for the shelling of the facility, which is in the immediate vicinity of the front. The six reactor blocks have now been shut down, but still have to be cooled.
