France’s former President Sarkozy gets anklewell

France’s convicted ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy has been given a squirrel to sit down his one-year prison sentence. The conservative may only leave the house between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., as the Parisian public prosecutor said. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, he can be traveling until 9:30 p.m. On these days of the week, Sarkozy is on trial in another trial.

Sarkozy had been sentenced to three years in prison for bribery and unauthorized influence. Two of them are exposed to probation, one thing he has to serve at home with a booth. The Court of Justice as the highest French court confirmed a corresponding judgment of the Paris Court of Appeal in December. The verdict became legally binding. Sarkozy had denied the allegations. The punishment is unprecedented for a former head of state in recent French history.

The procedure was about the fact that the former president is said to have tried his long -time lawyer Thierry Herzog in 2014 to receive secrets from the lawyer Gilbert Azibert in another affair. In return, Azibert was offered support for the application for a post in Monaco. In essence, this behavior endangered the independence of the judiciary, argued the indictment. Duke and Azibert were also sentenced to three years in prison, two of them on probation.

Sarkozy is currently on trial because of the so-called Libya affair. This is about evidence that, according to which Sarkozy’s election campaign in 2007, illegally money from the regime of the then Libyan ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi is said to have flowed. Sarkozy, who was president from 2007 to 2012, rejects the allegations.
