Kyiv attracts young Ukrainians with a premium for military service
Ukraine lack soldiers for defense. With financial incentives, Kiev would therefore like to move spared young men to the front of the mobilization.
In view of an acute lack of soldiers, Ukraine also wants to recruit young men aged 18 to 24 in its defense against the Russian invasion as a volunteer – with high premium payments. Anyone who concludes a one -year contract with the armed forces will receive a payment of one million hrywnja (a good 23,200 euros) and a monthly wage of 120,000 Hrywnja (almost 2,900 euros), the Ministry of Defense said. After the start of the war, Kiev had issued a mobilization law that men between the ages of 25 and 60 are subject to conscription.
In the past, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj has refused to reduce the military duty to 18-year-olds. The younger years are considered to be weak. Accordingly, their commitment on the front of radical effects on the future of the country would have to consider.
However, Ukraine has been suffering from not having enough soldiers on the front for a long time. After massive pressure, which is said to have been exercised primarily by the United States, Kiev has now softened the ban on conscription with the volunteer regulation.
The volunteers get the one million hrywnja: there is a fifth when signing the declaration of commitment, 300,000 after going through the basic training and another 500,000 when leaving.
Russia also pays high bonuses to secure the supplies of soldiers for his war of attack. These vary from region to region. In Moscow, volunteers are promised soldiers of the equivalent of over 50,000 euros for the first year of war.
