The last regular meeting of the Bundestag was last week. But the parliament has to react to current events. That is why a meeting of the interior committee is now being planned.
In order to learn more about the background and the ongoing investigation after the fatal attack in Munich, the interior committee of the Bundestag is planning a special meeting this week. According to members of the committee, one is expected to come together on Wednesday. The time is not yet clear, it said.
The chairs of the factions had already received initial information on the case in a conference call from the Ministry of the Interior. “Despite the admission of the perpetrator in the interrogation, the focus is also on the question of the motif,” says interior politician Martina Renner (Die Linke).
Investigators suspect Islamist motive
On Thursday, a 24-year-old Afghan drove his car into a demonstration by the Verdi union. A two -year -old girl and his 37 -year -old mother were so badly injured that they died in the hospital on Saturday. At least 37 other people suffered injuries.
The Bavarian investigators currently assume – mainly due to statements by the driver after the arrest – that the crime has an Islamist background. Due to the special importance of the case, the federal prosecutor has taken over the investigation.
