Sainte-Laguë/Schepers procedure for the seating calculation
The Sainte-Laguë/Schepers counting procedure has been used since 2009 to determine the distribution of seats after a federal election. First, the number of second votes cast is divided by the total number of seats to be distributed. A preliminary allocation divisor is determined, i.e. the number, through which the respective votes of the parties are shared. The results, i.e. the quotients, are rounded into seat numbers. The following applies: With a rest of more or less than 0.5, it is rounded up or rounded. In the event of a rest of exactly 0.5, the lot decides, according to the Bundestag website. The divisor is determined in such a way that the number of seats in total match the total number of mandates to be awarded.
