Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to win the Bundestag election 2025 for the SPD. An overview of the stations of his life.
Olaf Scholz started as a defending champion, but with similarly poor chances as before his surprise victory three years ago. A look back at Olaf Scholz’s career
In 1958 Scholz was born in Osnabrück and grew up in Hamburg. In the Hanseatic city, he entered the SPD at the age of 17 and studied law after graduating from high school.
Throughout his life and career, he changes between Berlin and Hamburg. Always by his side: his partner and wife Britta Ernst (SPD). The deputy federal chairman of the SPD youth organization Jusos becomes the state chairman in Hamburg and finally SPD general secretary under his then sponsor Gerhard Schröder.
Under Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), he becomes Minister of Labor, but retires to the Hanseatic city in 2011 as the first mayor until Berlin calls again in 2018. There he rises to the Federal Minister of Finance and Vice Chancellor-but is always confronted with his time in Hamburg.
